Position: Systems Engineer
Unit/Department: Information Services
Reports To: Manager
Hours: 1.0 FTE, Days, Occasional weekends and On-call as scheduled.
Status: Full Time Regular
The Systems Engineer (SE) will be responsible for providing technical backend support for the Hospital’s Cerner and other Hospital systems. In close collaboration with fellow Information Services Staff members and users, the SE will work on new project installations, system upgrades, domain/environment management, performance monitoring and tuning. The SE will apply AIX, Oracle and application patches, and ensure that firmware on hardware is kept current. The SE will document and knowledge transfer as appropriate. All roles are essential in providing a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and others by ensuring that health and safety policies are followed.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of formal education and experience.
Minimum of five years experience installing, upgrading and supporting mission critical multi-tiered client-server computing environments based on Oracle and running on IBMUnix servers, preferably in a health care setting. Experience with Cerner would be a definite asset.
In-depth knowledge of AIX 5L
Thorough knowledge of Oracle 9i and higher. Expertise in performance monitoring and tuning, setting up backups and using oracle utilities. Also, must have thorough knowledge of data definition language (DDL) and data manipulation language (DML).
Working knowledge of IBM eServer p5 and pSeries servers.
Proficient programmer, especially in PL/SQL and Korn Shell.
Good knowledge of the IT with particular emphasis on client/server and/or web-based systems.
Passionate about learning new technologies.

Proven self-starter with sound judgement and decision making ability.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
Good organizational and time management skills.

Bilingualism English/French an asset.
